Broking List Autumn 2011

Why ever do people sell wine that they've gone to all the trouble to buy and cellar for years? Have they tried it and found it to be intensely rank? Are the corks full of weevils and the bottles half empty?

Fortunately for us, the answer is most often entirely innocent. Some people simply overshoot and have more wine than they can possibly ever consume (a personal fantasy of mine). Others have found themselves expatriate for far longer than they ever expected and suddenly wake up to find they have tranches of wine coming ready to drink, with no chance of ever enjoying them before decrepitude sets in (personal nightmare). In any event, this offers a chance to buy wine that is often more or less mature, of excellent provenance and quite frequently wine that is unavailable elsewhere. So that's all good news then…

So load up your bargain-detecting software and set your mouse to "extreme click".

Red Bordeaux

Vintage Wine Drink dates Case size Price
2000

Château Roc des Cambes, Côte de Bourg, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "Saturated ruby. Wild aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, pepper, truffle and game. Wonderfully sweet, dense and concentrated; already showing compelling inner-mouth flavors of black fruits and spices. Finishes with terrific length and brightness. A very strong vintage for this wine." Stephen Tanzer
2005-2013 6x75cl £222.00

2000

Sarget de Gruaud-Larose, St Julien, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "Sarget de Gruaud Larose 2000 Nov-04 18 A delicate, sweet gamey nose dominated by Merlot. Moderate tannins. Good fruit concentration on the mid-palate, ripe black, tobacco infused fruit although the finish is leaner than I would like. Drink from 2005." Neal Martin on erobertparker.com
2005-2013 12x75cl £270.00

1997

Château Léoville-Lascases, St Julien, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "Among the more tannic and backward wines of the vintage, the 2007 is another outstanding effort from this estate. Already somewhat closed, it is a candidate for one of the longest lived wines of the vintage. Beautifully pure black currant and black cherry fruit interwoven with notions of cedar and wood are found in this medium to full-bodied, structured, masculine-styled St.-Julien. The attack reveals sweetness and softness, but then the wine shuts down. It will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 15 or more." Robert Parker
2013-2023 12x75cl £930.00

2003

Château Léoville-Lascases, St Julien, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "The solidly made 2003 Leoville Las-Cases (13.2% alcohol) is a blend of 70.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17.2% Merlot, and 12.6% Cabernet Franc. In this incredibly hot vintage, the alcohol is slightly lower than achieved in 2002, a cool-climate year. While not a profound example of Las-Cases, the 2003 is muscular, deep, and full-bodied with an impressive ruby/purple color, a tight but juicy bouquet of vanilla, black cherries, crushed rocks, and flowers, a sweet attack, and moderately high tannin. Backward and fresh, displaying impeccable delineation and purity, it can be enjoyed between 2012-2023." Robert Parker
2013-2023 12x75cl £1,215.00

2006

Château Giscours, Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "Herbaceous, earthy, truffle notes intermixed with sweet cherries, plums, and currants are present in this soft, medium garnet wine, which is surprisingly evolved and best drunk over the next 10-15 years. I like the wine’s plushness, and the concentration is certainly very good, but this is on a fast evolutionary track." Robert Parker
2010-2023 12x75cl £288.00

2006

Château l'Evangile, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "The sexy, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2006 l’Evangile achieved 14% natural alcohol, as high as any of the great vintages at this estate. Abundant amounts of dark raspberry and black cherry fruit intertwined with sweet plums and hints of figs as well as spring flowers jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, fleshy, supple-textured, silky wine. Drink it now or cellar it for 15-20 years." Robert Parker
2011-2025 6x75cl £405.00

Backward and fresh, displaying impeccable delineation and purity, it can be enjoyed between 2012-2023." Robert Parker
2012-2022 6x75cl £606.00

2007

2012-2028 12x75cl £921.00

1996

Château Beau-Séjour-Bécot, St Emilion, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "The lavishly-oaked, hedonistically-styled 1996 exhibits a dark plum/purple color. The nose offers up sweet jammy fruit (primarily black currants and cherries) intermixed with toasty new oak. Medium-bodied, with excellent, nearly outstanding richness, a nicely-layered mid-palate, and sweet tannin in the long finish, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age, and should last for 15+ years." Robert Parker
2012-2025 12x75cl £303.00

2007

Château Angélus, St Emilion, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "A super effort from proprietor Hubert de Bouard, this blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc exhibits sweet notes of chocolate, charcoal, blackberries, and jammy cherries in its round, opulent, fleshy personality. Yields were 35 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine achieved 13.5% natural alcohol. Low acidity and ripe tannin make for a voluptuous style of Angelus to drink now and over the next 10-15 years." Robert Parker
2010-2022 6x75cl £658.00

2006

Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "A spectacular effort (what’s new?), this brilliant offering from proprietor Hubert de Bouard is another classic. A blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc, it boasts an inky/purple color as well as a sumptuous bouquet of creosote, blueberry pie, espresso roast, blackberries, and graphite. Extremely full-bodied and stunningly rich with a multi-layered texture, sweet tannin, and a 45-second finish, this exceptional 2006 is one of the great wines of St.-Emilion. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2028." Robert Parker
2011-2035 6x75cl £513.00

2007

Château La Conseillante, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "This big, juicy, spicy Pomerol exhibits aromas and flavors of mulberries, raspberries, violets, licorice, and a touch of herbs. Made in a medium-bodied, upfront style, this round, seductive wine should drink well for 7-10 years." Robert Parker
2009-2020 6x75cl £540.00

1996

Château Léoville-Barton*, St Julien, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "This impressive wine is a classic. Although backward, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to abundant black currant fruit intertwined with spicy oak and truffle-like scents. The wine is brilliantly made, full-bodied, and tightly-structured with plenty of muscle and outstanding concentration and purity. It should turn out to be a long-lived Leoville Barton, and somewhat of a sleeper. However, patience will be required. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2030." Robert Parker
2010-2030 12x75cl £1,173.00

2001

Château d'Angludet*, Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "A sleeper of the vintage, this excellent offering possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of melted asphalt, cedar wood, black currants, gravel, and tar. There is plenty of well-integrated tannin along with surprising size, richness, and aging potential (particularly for a Cru Bourgeois). Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015." Robert Parker
2010-2016 12x75cl £351.00

1996

Château Chasse-Spleen, Moulis-en-Médoc, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "Aromas of cedar, leather and tobacco, with fruity undertones. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Fruity, with a light, fresh herb aftertaste." The Wine Spectator
2005-2016 12x75cl £297.00

1994

Château Pichon Lalande*, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

Notes: One of the stars of the vintage, this opaque purple-coloured wine possesses a gorgeously perfumed, exotic, smoky, blackcurrant, asian spice, and sweet vanillin-scented bouquet.  It is followed by thick, rich, moderately tannic flavours that exhibit medium to full body, good structure, outstanding purity, and a classically layered, long, pure finish.  This terrific Pichon-Lalande should evolve effortlessly for 18-20 years.  Anticipating Maturity: 2001-2020.  Robert Parker
2001-2020 12x75cl £990.00

1995

Clos Fourtet*, St Emilion, Bordeaux, France

Notes: A very fine effort from Clos Fourtet, the 1995 exhibits a medium dark plum colour, followed by sweet black cherry and kirsch fruit intertwined with minerals and toasty oak.  tightly wound on the palate, with medium body, excellent delineation and purity, and a spicy finish with plenty of grip, this example has closed down considerably since bottling, but it does possess excellent sweetness and depth.  However, the tannin is more elevated, so this 1995 will require patience.  Anticipated maturity: 2004-2018.  Robert Parker
2004-2018 12x75cl £540.00

1996

Château Lascombes*, Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Notes: Exotic aromas of blackberry, tangerine and Indian spice.  Full-bodied, silky and refined.  Gorgeous.  Little short.  The Wine Spectator
  12x75cl £540.00

1996

Château Cantenac Brown*, Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Notes: The colour is a deep ruby/purple.  The wine offers simple but pleasing aromas of black currants, licorice, and vanillin.   In the mouth, it is medium to full-bodied, powerful, muscular, somewhat foursquare, but mouthfilling, rich, and with the potential to move up in score if more complexity develops.  Anticipated maturity:  2004 - 2015.  Robert Parker
2004-2015 12x75cl £600.00

1998

Château Figeac*, St Emilion, Bordeaux, France

Notes: As befitting a wine with considerable Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in the blend, this is a stylish, mid-weight effort with an opulant, complex bouquet of licorice, Asian spices, tobacco, and fruit cake.  Obvious black currants, smoke, vanillin, and new saddle leather are prominent in the wine's beautifully-knit flavours.  This opulent, rich, concentrated, layered, pure, complex 1998 reveals low acidity as well as ripe tannin, suggesting it will be impossible to resist young.  Anticipated maturity: now-2016.  Robert Parker
2011-2016 12x75cl £1,050.00

1998

Château Cissac, Médoc, Bordeaux, France

White Bordeaux

Vintage Wine Drink dates Case size Price
2002

Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "Tasted at the chateau. This is an exceptional Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, certainly the one to seek out in recent vintages. It simply has a beautiful nose with wonderful definition and sense of minerality. Apple, lime and a touch of Lychee, very focused and poised. The palate has superb weight, very good acidity and concentration. It is slightly viscous with a touch of clear honey towards the finish. Very long and satisfying. Drink 2012-2025." Neal Martin on erobertparker.com
2012-2020 12x75cl £540.00

2003

Château La Tour Blanche, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "So big and round and unctuous. Yet saved by its structure. Beginning, middle and end with a toastiness. Undertow. Great stuff. Enjoy it while you may!" Jancis Robinson
2008-2018 12x75cl £291.00

2003

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "Yellow-gold. Knockout nose combines apricot jam, peach, white plum and spicy, vanillin oak. Lush and fat with fruit; opulent and seamless. Wonderfully concentrated flavors of peach, nectarine and spices, with a whiff of menthol adding complexity. Fat and sweet but with lovely freshness and lift; in fact, this is showing more shape and thrust than it did from barrel a year ago. Finishes long and spicy, with very strong fruit. This is already delicious." Stephen Tanzer
2007-2018 12x75cl £291.00

1997

Château Rieussec, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "This wine contains an extremely high percentage of Semillon (usually about 90%), which was to its benefit in 1997. The wine is light medium gold-colored, with a blockbuster nose of Grand Marnier liqueur intertwined with flower blossoms, smoky new oak, and coconut. Well-integrated wood has resulted in a seamless, full-bodied, unctuously-textured wine with considerable sweetness. This is a stunningly proportioned, beautifully pure wine." Robert Parker
2003-2023 12x75cl £360.00

2008

Château Rieussec, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "The 2008 Rieussec has a lifted, honeyed, slightly petrolly nose with great definition and lift. Touches of white flowers and white peach/honeysuckle develop with further aeration. The palate has a vibrant orange and mandarin flavored entry, very good balance, nicely poised with touches of vanilla inflecting the viscous, honeyed fruit on the finish. Classy but the oak obfuscates this Rieussec at the moment." Robert Parker
2016-2028 12x75cl £270.00

1996

Château de Rayne-Vigneau*, Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

Notes: "This wine reveals a honeyed melon and pineapple-scented nose, medium body, and fine purity and ripeness. Drink it over the next 10-15 years…" Robert Parker

2003

Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, Louis Boillot, Burgundy, France

Notes:
2006-2013 12x75cl £252.00

2003

Chambertin Grand Cru, Nicolas Potel, Burgundy, France

Notes: "Good medium red. Headspinning, expressive nose combines candied red fruits, chocolate, minerals, pepper, smoked meat, five-spice powder, underbrush and flowers; this incorporates all the Chambertin food groups. Hugely thick, sappy and sweet, with outstanding volume and breadth. Wonderfully dense flavors of raspberry, menthol, five-spice powder and underbrush. Finishes with broad, noble tannins and unflagging persistence. This captures the essence of the 2003 vintage, and is showing spectacularly today. A no-brainer for those lucky enough to find a bottle: I thought I was drinking an old-style Burgundy from the '40s." Stephen Tanzer
2009-2016 6x75cl £441.00

2005

Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Fourneaux, Chandon de Briailles, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A high-toned red fruit nose that is exceptionally fresh and bright leads to delicious, precise and serious middle weight flavors that possess both solid depth and punch on the presently rustic finish though de Nicolay indicated that it will be fined." The Burghound
2012-2020 12x75cl £234.00

2005

Gevrey-Chambertin, Armand Rousseau, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A lovely and expressive nose that is unusually broad relative to its normal backward state features a pretty mix of red, black and violet earth-infused aromas that lead to rich, supple and round flavors that possess good depth and a nervy and racy finish, all wrapped in a nicely long finish." The Burghound
2012-2022 12x75cl £715.00

2005

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes, Domaine Arlaud, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A high-toned red berry fruit nose is both elegant and refined as it dissolves into sweet, rich, forward and fleshy flavors that are exceptionally fresh and vibrant, culminating in a supple, textured and energetic finish. This is classy and refined as well as beautifully well balanced. Terrific." The Burghound
2015-2025 12x75cl £486.00

2006

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Jean Grivot, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A discreet, even reticent nose of earthy and very fresh dark berry fruit evinces a subtle sauvage character that continues onto the big and sleekly muscled flavors that are concentrated and mouth coating, all wrapped in a the classically austere young Clos de Vougeot finish that delivers excellent length. This is a serious effort that is balanced and should age extremely well though it will require ample patience." The Burghound
2017-2030 12x75cl £562.00

2008

Vosne-Romanée, Jean Grivot, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A classic Vosne nose of spicy violet suffused red and blue pinot fruit where the spiciness carries over to the supple middle weight sour cherry-infused flavors that possess a firm tannic spine and a hint of rusticity on the otherwise balanced and long finish. A good villages." The Burghound
2015-2025 12x75cl £234.00

2005

Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots, Confuron-Cotetidot, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A more elegant and slightly fresher black cherry and cassis-infused nose leads to rich, velvety and vibrant flavors offering excellent volume and ample mid-palate fat, culminating in a racy, structured and vibrant finish. This is a serious wine and built to age with tremendous upside potential." The Burghound
2018-2030 6x75cl £351.00

2005

Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots, Confuron-Cotetidot, Burgundy, France

2018-2030 12x75cl £702.00

2008

Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées, Clavelier, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A distinctly different nose that is also quite elegant but spicier with a pretty mix of red and blue berry fruit aromas that are in keeping with the rich and precise medium-bodied flavors that possess good power and punch on the linear finish where the tannins are dense yet quite fine." The Burghound
2017-2030 12x75cl £522.00

2006

Echézeaux Grand Cru, Mugneret-Gibourg, Burgundy, France

Notes:
2016-2030 6x75cl £648.00

2006

Echézeaux Grand Cru, François Lamarche, Burgundy, France

Notes: "A very attractive blend of black fruit, Vosne spice and a moderate dollop of new wood introduces rich, full and notably ripe flavors that possess good volume and a velvety, indeed almost suave finish that cannot disguise the impressive power and robust structure. This will require the better part of a decade to fully resolve the slightly rustic tannic spine." The Burghound
2015-2024 12x75cl £651.00

1996

Nuits-St-Georges, Robert Arnoux, Burgundy, France

Notes: "This medium-to-dark ruby-colored wine has sweet cassis and blackberry aromatics that are followed by a big, lush, supple, and medium-to-full-bodied personality. This delicious wine, filled with plump black berry, mineral, and metallic flavors, was a delight to drink from barrel." Robert Parker
2005-2014 6x75cl £162.00

1996

Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets, Henri Gouges, Burgundy, France

Notes: "This medium-to-dark ruby-colored wine reveals rich, spicy, and sweet black cherry aromas. It is a feminine-styled Nuits, with lush red and black fruits and minerals in its medium-to-full-bodied, forward, chewy-textured and seductive flavor profile. Interestingly, this wine's finish is firmer and more "Nuits" than its attack or mid-palate suggested. However, readers should not be concerned as the tannins are well-ripened and supple." Robert Parker
2007-2017 12x75cl £486.00

1998

Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru, Pierre Damoy, Burgundy, France

Notes: "Much larger scaled with forward, powerful Gevrey fruit and similar flavors of earth, minerals and pinot extract. The tannins are big though ripe, the intensity is impressive as is the complexity and the persistence. Very solid effort." Allen Meadows AKA The Burghound
2010-2015 12x75cl £630.00

1999

Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles St Jacques, Bouchard Père et Fils, Burgundy, France

Notes:
  12x75cl £399.00

1993

Vosne Romanee 1er Cru les Beaumonts, Daniel Rion*, Burgundy, France

Notes: Cannot find a note for this.  I drank it some 6 years ago and it was stupendous; one of those burgundies that sticks in one's mind for ages.  It was that good.  Should still be drinking extremely well.
  12x75cl £987.00

1998

Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers*, Jean Grivot, Burgundy, France

Notes: Grivot's 1998 1er crus all receive very good reviews from assorted critics... I just cannot find one for the Pruliers.  It's sure to be a very fine and mature burgundy.
  12x75cl £432.00

1999

Pommard 1er Cru les Charmots, Aleth Le Royer Girardin, Burgundy, France

Notes: Aleth's 1999s are beautiful  I am drinking the Rugiens at home at the moment and it is solf, lush and very lovely.

1997

Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, Bonneau du Martray, Burgundy, France

Notes: The initial hints of secondary aromas are now appearing and lead to round, rich and full-bodied flavours that have lost none of their detail or precision and the beautifully long finish offers really lovely complexity.  In particular, this has kept its intensity and there is still some underlying reserve, which suggests that it has not quite reached its peak.  I would cellar this for another year, perhaps two and enjoy over the following 7 to 8 years.  The Burghound, tasting in 2004

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lucien Barrot, Southern Rhône, France

Notes: "The complex, earth, plum, herb, cherry, and currant-scented 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape is a complete, rich, layered wine. It reveals considerable structure at present (it was just bottled), with moderate levels of tannin, a spicy, animal-like characteristic, and flavors of black cherry, kirsch liqueur, and incense. It has the potential to improve for 5-6 years, and drink well for 12-14 years." Robert Parker

1998

Châteauneuf-du-Pape*, Château de Beaucastel, Southern Rhône, France

Notes: "That may explain the open-knit, complex notes of tree bark, black cherries, licorice, seaweed, pepper, and floral notes in the 1998 Beaucastel. The wine is medium to full-bodied, has nice, sweet tannins, and is surprisingly open and approachable. This wine has reached the beginning of its plateau of maturity, where it should last for at least a decade or more." Robert Parker

1999

Cornas Les Ruchets, Domaine Colombo, Northern Rhône, France

Notes: "The 80-100-year old vines of Les Ruchets are planted high on the slopes of Cornas. The 1999 Cornas Les Ruchets reveals toasty new oak in the nose, raising the specter of an internationally styled Cornas. However, once past the oak, this dense purple-colored effort exhibits notes of minerals, pepper, blackberries, and cassis without the uncivilized, rustic tannin Cornas often possesses. This full-bodied 1999 reveals a multi-layered palate, considerable glycerin, outstanding fruit purity, and a long, impressive finish (20-25 seconds). Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015." Robert Parker

Hermitage, Le Chevalier de Sterimburg, Paul Jaboulet Aîné, Northern Rhône, France

Notes: "The spectacular 1996 Hermitage Chevalier de Sterimberg (33% Roussanne and 67% Marsanne) has been 100% barrel-fermented, put through 100% malolactic fermentation, and aged in 100% new oak. However, the oak is completely submerged beneath the wine's extraordinary rose petal, apricot, nutty, and peach-like richness. The wine displays huge quantities of glycerin, a sensational texture, and terrific purity and depth. This spectacular offering is capable of lasting for 10-20+ years." Robert Parker

Eclipse, Noon Winery, McLaren Vale, South Australia, Australia

Notes: "The 2000 Eclipse (a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Shiraz, aged in large American barrels, and bottled unfiltered) is stunning stuff. Its dense purple color is accompanied by gorgeous aromatics of blackberries, super-ripe black cherries, and hints of smoke and underbrush. Like all the Noon offerings, it possesses stunning purity, a fabulous texture, and a long finish (in excess of 35 seconds). Anticipated maturity: now-2014." Robert Parker

1999

Wakefield Shiraz, St Andrews*, Australia

Notes: Medium red-purple; dark berry, spice and sweet oak aromas lead into a palate with excellent richness and concentration, basically at the savoury end of the spectrum.  I am far from convinced that this represents the same value as the varietal Shiraz, but there is no denying it is a good wine.  James Halliday.

1998

Barossa Shiraz, Heysen Veritas (11 Bottles), Australia

Notes: The 1998 Shiraz Heysen (a blend of 95% Shiraz and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from 26 year old vines, and aged in 40% new oak) is off the charts.  An opaque black/purple is accompanied by an ostentatious bouquet of raspberries, blackberries, currants, and cherries.  With airing, the bouquet also offers up smoke, pepper, licorice, and earth.  In the mouth, the wine is unctuously textured and extremely full-bodied, with great purity as well as layers of flavor.  It is a dazzling example of what Australia can do so well.  Four hundred cases of this classic were produced.  Anticipated maturity: now-2020. Robert Parker

1994

Vina Ardanza Reserva, La Rioja Alta, Spain

Notes: Excellent deep red.  Fresh but rather unforthcoming aromas of red fruits and tar.  Thick and rich; really chewy and mouthfilling.  Not overly oaky.  Finishes very long, with suave, fine tannins and compelling freshness.  Stephen Tanzer.

1994

Vina Real Gran Reserva, CVNE, Spain

Notes: Dark red.  Strawberry, smoke, earth, spice cake and chocolate on the nose.  Very sweet and dense, with lush but somewhat clenched fruit.  Powerfully structured wine, with very strong acids and tannic spine.  In an awkward stage today, and still quite youthfully unevolved.  Stephen Tanzer.  NB. Evidently an old note.
12x75cl £660.00

1995

Imperial Gran Reserva, CVNE, Spain

Notes: Good full red.  Deeply pitched aromas of smoke, minerals, leather and truffle.  Supple and silky but nicely penetrating, with ripe, intense flavours of cherry, minerals and oak perfectly framed by harmonious acids.  Subtle, textured Rioja finishing with good grip and thrust.  Stephen Tanzer.
12x75cl £561.00

1995

Vina Real Gran Reserva, CVNE, Spain

Notes: Medium red.  Strawberry, raspberry, mint, earth and vanillin oak on the nose.  Quite velvety and sweet, but the red fruit and spice flavours have a sappy vibrancy.  Very ripe but quite subtle on the long aftertaste.  Stephen Tanzer.

1991

Vintage Port, Graham, Douro, Portugal

Notes: "Graham's 1991 Vintage Port gets my nod as the port of the vintage. While keeping in mind that Graham's aims for a sweeter-styled port, there is no doubting the opaque purple/black color, or the explosive nose of black fruits, licorice, spring flowers, and tar. Thick and full-bodied, with a satiny texture and a blockbuster, alcoholic finish, this is a top-notch vintage port." Robert Parker
