We drink the Rollin white village Pernand at home regularly and with enormous pleasure. It offers spectacular bang for one’s buck, being very proper white burgundy and delicious with it.
The style here is for rich, textural wines showing no great influence from the wood. They are also capable of ageing with aplomb.
N.B. This is very much thought of as a white wine domaine, yet the red wines here should not be overlooked, as they offer a great deal of class and interest.
2021 Pernand Vergelesses Blanc, Domaine Rollin Père et Fils
£138 in bond per 6
Drink 2024-2028
"Pale lemon and lime colour. Once again, there is an immediately attractive nose, softer perhaps than the chiselled white fruit of old in Pernand. Weighty ripe apples at the back, slightly more mineral finish, but this is a plump style for the vintage." Jasper Morris MW
2021 Pernand Vergelesses Blanc Les Cloux, Domaine Rollin Père et Fils
£168 in bond per 6
Drink 2024-2029
"A pale lemon colour, with a noticeably more reticent nose. More in white fruit with less of the baked apples, though Simon finds it more exotic. Good acidity to finish and a few appley notes return at the back. More volume in the mouth here." Jasper Morris MW
2021 Pernand Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses, Domaine Rollin Père et Fils
£225 in bond per 6
Drink 2026-2033
"A fine depth of purple to the eye. There is promise in the bouquet, though it is actually quite backward. A little bit of new wood here, showing more than Fichots, but a finer quality of fruit, and more length to finish. Not quite the mid palate density of the best years but a very sound Pernand which will repay keeping." Jasper Morris MW
