Christophe Drag, son-in-law of Jean Chauvenet, is not only one of the nicest people you'll meet in Burgundy, he also crafts a brilliant range of wines from a broad diversity of Nuits Saint Georges terroirs.
2019 Nuits St Georges, Domaine Jean Chauvenet
£156 in bond per 6
A bright, ripe, dark and spicy nose adorned with hint of floral notes and a touch of wood. Rich in the mouth, yet this is loaded with rich, mineral tannins, some wood-derived. This is delicious and direct and has a spine of firm acidity running through the core. Very long. Delicious.
2019 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Rue de Chaux, Domaine Jean Chauvenet
£252 in bond per 6
Very nice bramble purity of fruit on the nose, plus something more domesticated: raspberry most likely contender. There’s a distinct whiff of the earth about it, too. This is really firm and loaded with firm structure. It’s very fresh right through, the very mineral-rocky core enveloped by ripe, fresh fruit, red and black. Very long and loaded with terroir. Very firmly fresh too. This is super.
