Arnaud Desfontaine and his brother Xavier are pushing quality here ever higher. The Côte Chalonnaise is now a major source of fine-value, quality burgundy, red and white. The "basic" Bourgogne Pinot Noir is simply one of the finest everyday burgundies we've ever encountered, but everything with a Chamilly label will give enormous pleasure.
2019 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Château de Chamilly

Superb aromas include nut-inflected dark, spiced plum fruit, all very pretty indeed. In the mouth, this is pure and delicious, with very fine silken tannins. It offers delightful cleansing freshness at the back. Really long thing. Benchmark Bourgogne.
2019 Bouzeron Les Bouchines, Château de Chamilly
£72 in bond per 6
Really varietal nose in its earthy-ripe lemon aromas with a hint of yellow apple. There's excellent weight in the mouth: superb density, plus its earthy structure held within. Golden Delicious apple-crisp fruit and electric acidity, then a delicious orange-touched finish. This is really superior Aligoté.
2019 Mercurey au Pied du Mont Morin, Château de Chamilly
£93 in bond per 6
Delicious wild fruit aromas with an almost Gevrey-like character, red and black. Fruit in the mouth is rich and supple and there is some fresh supportive structure in the form of incisive, tacky tannins. A long wine with a superb finish and very good energy at the death. Lovely.
