2020 Burgundy - Domaine Rollin Père et Fils

We drink the Rollin white village Pernand at home regularly and with enormous pleasure. It offers spectacular bang for one’s buck, being very proper white burgundy and delicious with it.

The style here is for rich, textural wines showing no great influence from the wood. They are also capable of ageing with aplomb.

N.B. This is very much thought of as a white wine domaine, yet the red wines here should not be overlooked, as they offer a great deal of class and interest.

2020 Pernand Vergelesses Blanc, Domaine Rollin Père et Fils
£126 in bond per 6
Drink 2023-2029
Bottled in mid-September. The nose is not quite as extrovert as the Hautes Côtes de Beaune, and the fruit is whiter on the palate. Certainly ripe, a touch of liquorice, some warmth, but this works and has kept some Pernand-Vergelesses. Stocky but well made.Jasper Morris MW

2020 Pernand Vergelesses Blanc Les Cloux, Domaine Rollin Père et Fils
£153 in bond per 6
Drink 2023-2030
Pale lemon with a fine green streak through the middle. Quite restrained nose. Very clean, clear cut white fruit, with power but also a sense of elegance, the texture is velvety and slightly more nuanced than the village Pernand. Enough acidity, supple and long. There is a faint touch of cinnamon from the barrel. Vigorous mid yellow, starts discreetly but the nose builds, classic Pernand albeit with good volume.Jasper Morris MW

2020 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, Domaine Rollin Père et Fils
£492 in bond per 6
Drink 2028-2037
A deep lemon and lime. There is weight and depth on the nose, a richness of fruit over and above the minerals. All there, the oak sits happily with the fruit, a fresh lick of stones comes up behind, excellent persistence, put away for 10 years. Fine crunch as well as soft voluptuousness at the finish.Jasper Morris MW

2020 Pernand Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses, Domaine Rollin Père et Fils
 in bond per 6
Drink 2027-2036
A mix of 30 year old and 80 year old vines. Though the colour is pretty much as intense purple, the bouquet is much better balanced. Ripe dark fruit but also some floral highlights, surprisingly prominent acidity at the back but the balance is astonishing in this vineyard. Just a dry tannin or two at the back and the fruit is pretty ripe, but even so a lovely wine.Jasper Morris MW
