Burgundy - Wine Region

Burgundy comprises a collection of appellations that stretch from almost the southern reaches of Champagne in the north to the limits of the northern Rhône in the south. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir take the leading roles, with support acts in the form of Gamay, Aligoté and, in the far north, Sauvignon Blanc. The Côte d'Or (comprising the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune) is the most celebrated part of Greater Burgundy: along this line of hills are to be found such famous communes as Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, Nuits St Georges (in the Côte de Nuits) and Puligny- and Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard (in the Côte de Beaune).
