Malbec - Grape Variety

Celebrated in France for being the grape producing the “black” wine of Cahors, it seems more likely that Malbec's origins lie in the Loire Valley, where it is known as Cot. It has, in the past, been employed in the blends of Bordeaux. The sheer diversity of this variety's names suggest its long history. Introduced into Argentina in the middle of the nineteenth century, Malbec has now become virtually synonymous with the red wine production of that country.
