Vidiano - Grape Variety
Vidiano had all but disappeared, with just a few vines existing in mixed plantings near the town of Rethymno in northern Crete. A rescue operation occurred and it is now grown by a number of wineries on the island, as well as one or two elsewhere in Greece. it copes well with hot climates and produces a fruity wine than retains good acidity even when ripe. It is often blended with other varieties, both local and international, but one can find an increasing number of mono-varietal examples. It is related to other Cretan grapes Vilana and Thrapsathiri.
