Marsanne - Grape Variety

Marsanne is a properly Rhône-ish variety, taking its name from a town near Montélimar and being one of the principal ingredients of white Hermitage (up to 10% is also allowed in red Hermitage, but is rarely used). It is likely that it is closely related to its regular blending partner Roussanne. The wines of Marsanne can have a great deal of character: a richness of body bordering on oiliness, as well as rich aromas that can range from citrus through orchard fruits to nut. The wine generally only has moderate freshness, yet it can age supremely well...and not just as one of the rare and sought-after sweet wines..
