Semillon - Grape Variety

Together with Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon forms the mainstay of white Bordeaux wines, both dry and sweet; it seems its origins lie somewhere around the Gironde. There is a red skinned version known in South Africa and nowhere else. It has been transplanted most successfully to Australia where, in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, it makes one of the world's longest living dry white wines. Semillon wines have a distinct richness of texture, lime-floral fruit developing into nuttiness with age.
