Marselan - Grape Variety

Marselan is a crossing of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache made in 1961 by a man named Paul Truel at a research institute in Montpellier. Initially overlooked due to it not yielding a great deal of fruit and producing small berries, it is now becoming increasingly popular due to its disease resistance and, of course, the high quality of the wine it produces. With its roots firmly in the Languedoc and Provence, Marselan is interestingly now one of the seven grape varieties permitted in Bordeaux and Bordeaux Superieur appellations on a minority basis, to help counter the effects of climate warming and rising temperatures in the region.
