2016 Château Léoville Barton, St Julien

2016 Château Léoville Barton, St Julien

Ref:
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

A part of the old Léoville estate which included the vineyards of Léovilles Poyferré and Lascases. And there is no château of Léoville Barton, the wine being made in the cellars of its stablemate Langoa. Thomas Barton arrived in Bordeaux from Ireland in the early 18th century and set himself up as a wine merchant in the city. His first foray into property came with the purchase of Château Le Boscq in St Estèphe. There followed the purchase of what would become known as Langoa Barton, then that portion of the Léoville estate that would be renamed in honour of the family name. This is a 47 hectare vineyard from which emanates one of the slowest maturing wines of the Médoc.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"The 2016 Léoville-Barton has a more savory bouquet than its peers: again, slightly tertiary in style, though very well delineated and manifesting lovely incense and pressed violet aromas with aeration. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe, and gently grippy, leading to a detailed and quite plush (for the vintage) finish. This is a charming Saint-Julien, a bit of a femme fatale." Neal Martin

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
