Abutting St Emilion and in one of the finest sectors of Right Bank vineyard land, Château l'Evangile was named by then owner Jean-Paul Chaperon who also, in 1874, built the château. At the turn of the last century, l'Evangile was deemed to be just behind Vieux Château Certan and Petrus in the ranking of the wines of Pomerol. In 1990 70% ownership was sold to the Rothschilds of Château Lafite, with the remainder being bought up in 1999. Since then, new wine making facilities have been installed and the vineyard completely refurbished. In 2012 six hectares of vines were purchased from La Croix de Gay, swelling Evangile (as it is now called) to its current size of 22 hectares.

"Mid crimson with some evolution. Very light, tea-leaf nose. Easy and fun though certainly not a blockbuster. Very attractive drinking for now and the medium term. Just a bit tart and skinny." Jancis Robinson
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
