At the beginning of the 19th century, John-Lewis Brown bought a vineyard and designed a traditional Tudor style château to go with the land, reminding him of his Scottish origins. In 1843, Mr. Gromard, banker, took over the estate. After the 1855 Grand Cru Classification, Louis Armand Lalande (1820-1894), Bordeaux wine merchant and owner of several estates in Médoc, extended the building. In 2006 AXA Millésimes sold Cantenac-Brown to Syrian-born property developer Simon Halabi.

Very dark wine in the glass. The nose is a tannic one; meaty-dense and rather closed. Lots of dark chocolate wood. Unformed, as yet, it seems. Across the tongue the fruit is a creamy wave of pure blackcurrant fruit. This is a chunky, cool, square wine in the mouth, showing dense tannic structure and high grip. This is a touch worked and very much a modern wine, but it is also highly impressive. Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.

If a wine is being listed duty paid, only the duty paid price is shown. Duty Paid wines have been removed from Bonded Storage and cannot be returned to an Under Bond status. They can be stored in a professional warehouse but will be stored Duty Paid.
