Jim Barry was only the 17th graduate in oenology from the celebrated Roseworthy Agricultural College back in 1947. The Clare Valley was always his chosen playground and he made the wine at the local co-operative for 22 vintages. He founded Taylors Wines in 1969 and subsequently branched out on his own. His son Peter became managing director in 1985 and now Peter’s children are all working in the family business. Jim Barry was instrumental in cementing the Clare Valley’s international reputation as a producer of fine Riesling.

“From magnum. Very pale. Tight and limey on the nose and palate. Super-crisp and tight on the palate. Tastes dry and has the density of fruit to give impressive length. Still primary flavours. Mouth-wateringly precise. Barely showing any development and would be a shame to drink this now. 12.1%.” Julia Harding MW
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
