Pietroso started in Montalcino in the 1970s thanks to the passion of winemaker Domenico Berni. His aim was to produce a limited quantity of fine wines from Montalcino's vineyards. Today the business is run by family member Gianni Pignattai who also has the expertise of Alex Dondi, an enologist and Federico Becarelli, an agronomist. The farm covers 13 hectares, 5 are cultivated with vines for the production of Brunello di Montalcino and there is one hectare of olive trees.

"Bright dark red-ruby. Expressive aromas of blueberry, nutmeg, flowers and herbs, with an undertone of graphite; I find this to be a much darker nose than usual, at least compared to the last few vintages. Then bright and subtle, with stone fruit and spice flavors framed by harmonious acidity. Not a blockbuster and little too dark fruited and herbal in its aromatic and flavor profiles, for my ideal of Sangiovese, but elegant, with a suave, classically dry finish." Ian d'Agata
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
