2021 Villa de Corullon, Descendientes de J. Palacios

2021 Villa de Corullon, Descendientes de J. Palacios

Ref: PALA210
Red  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

Alvaro Palacios is a titan of Spanish wine making. The scion of a historic rioja estate, Palacios Remondo, Alvaro's rise to fame started with a move to Priorato, where he began bottling a range of wines (at the pinnacle of which lies the mighty l'Ermita) that shot him to global fame.

Returning to the family winery in Rioja, Alvaro ramped up quality, reducing production by 60% to focus on making the very best wine.

In 1998 Alvaro and his nephew Ricardo Perez settled on Bierzo in northern Spain for their next venture. Steep, olf vineyards clad in the local Mencia grape tempted them to believe that special things would be possible from the region. And special things indeed were entirely possible, as evidenced by the wine below.

Tasting Notes

"The superb 2020 was a hard act to follow, but the 2021 Villa de Corullón didn't disappoint me. It also had contained ripeness and 13.5% alcohol, but it was darker than the 2020 but following the same style; and the wine has elegance and a vibrant palate, with very good freshness. I think Corullón has improved a lot since 2020. It's floral and elegant, with very fine tannins and nicely textured. 96-98/100." Luis Gutierrrez

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
