Standard Terms & Conditions


All prices on the Bowes Wine website are in pounds UK sterling and are clearly set out on our website. 

When the listed wine is lying under bond or being sold en primeur (see below for additional en primeur terms & conditions), the price shown is under bond; a duty paid equivalent is shown for indication purposes only as this is calculated on the current duty & VAT rate. Where the listed wine is lying duty paid, the price shown is inclusive of duty & VAT. 

Prices are subject to market and currency fluctuations, and changes in duty and VAT rates. Although every effort is made to ensure that the prices shown are correct at the time you place your order, occasionally an error is made and the wrong price may be listed. In this instance, we are not obliged to supply that item to you at the stated price, provided that we notify you before we dispatch the item to you. We will either notify you of the correct price so you can decide whether or not you wish to order the item at that price, or we will cancel the order. If you decide not to order the item, we will give you a full refund on any amount already paid in accordance with our Refund Policy.

Any delivery charges are additional to the listed price of the wine. For more information on our delivery charges, please see Delivery Information.

Any international bank charges are additional to the listed price of the wine; the buyer is liable for ALL international bank charges and must ensure that the full invoice value is receipted into our bank account. 


Bowes Wine endeavours to ensure that all wines shown as available on the website are in stock. If for any reason we are unable to supply a particular item, we will notify you as soon as possible. In such circumstances, we will not be liable to you except to ensure that you are not charged for that particular item. If you have already paid for the item, we will refund you in accordance with our Refund Policy detailed below.

En Primeur Sales

Bowes Wine sometimes sells wines “En Primeur”, i.e. prior to being bottled and for delivery at a future date. En Primeur wines are usually offered one or two years after the vintage is made but the wines are usually shipped a year or two later, depending on the wine region. 

At the time of sale, you pay an in bond price for the wine which includes the shipment of the wine to the UK. Once the wines arrive in our storage at LCB Dinton, you can either choose to store the wine under bond or can choose to pay the duty & VAT at the prevailing rate and have the wine delivered to a UK address. 

Bowes Wine does everything possible to ensure we only sell wines for which we have placed confirmed orders. However, due to the nature of the "futures"/"en primeur" market, we cannot guarantee availability of the wine until it has landed in the UK. In the very rare occasion that a wine is unavailable due to circumstances beyond our control, we will only refund you the initial sales value of the wine; we are not liable for any increase in market price which has occurred in the interim between sale and shipment.

Age Restriction

We cannot sell wine to anyone under 18 years old. By placing an order, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old.


You are requested to carefully check all wines at the time of delivery. The delivery note should be signed noting any shortages or breakages. We are unable to accept claims for shortages or breakages if they are not recorded in this way. You must notify us of any shortages or breakages within three working days of delivery. 


You may cancel an order within 7 working days of placing the order and will receive a full refund within 30 days. Where the order involves wines which have been delivered, you will be responsible for packing, delivery and return costs to our storage account at LCB Dinton. All cancelled orders must be returned in the original condition, with the goods therefore suitable for resale. 

Where a wine is found to be faulty or corked, we will offer a refund or replacement of equal value. Please contact us within three working days of discovering a faulty bottle.


If you are entitled to a refund, we will refund you within 30 days.

We will refund you by the same means that you paid, i.e. If you paid by a credit/debit card, we will refund you on the same card, if you paid via PayPal, we will refund you via PayPal, and if you paid by bank transfer, we will transfer the funds back to your bank account. In all instances, you are welcome to hold the refunded amount as a credit with Bowes Wine to use against a future order.


Title to the goods does not pass to the Buyer until the relevant invoice has been settled in full. 

Although the goods remain the Seller’s property until paid for, they shall be at the Buyer’s risk from time of delivery and the Buyer shall insure them against loss or damage accordingly, and in the event of such loss or damage shall hold the proceeds of such insurance on behalf of the Seller as trustee for the Seller.

Force Majeure

We will not be liable for any failure to meet our obligations caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.


All our contracts are made under English Law, and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
