2015 Château Cheval Blanc, St Emilion

2015 Château Cheval Blanc, St Emilion

Ref: BORD1550
Red  |  Still  |  14.35% ABV

The 39 hectares of the Cheval Blanc we known today were assembled in the early 19th century by Jean-Jacques Ducasse, President of the Libourne Trade Tribunal, who bought the lion's share then added bits and pieces bought from neighbours, including Château Figeac. It was later that century that the vineyard was planted with the sui generis 50:50 mix of Merlot and Cabernet France vines. So obsessed with quality was Cheval Blanc's owner that by the end of the 19th century the wine had not only been awarded medals in London and Paris, but was also priced on a par with the first growths of the Left Bank. Renovation and development was continued through the turn of the century and in the first classification of St Emilion in 1954, Cheval Blanc was ranked at the very top: Premier Grand Cru Classé "A". In 1998 the property was sold to Bernard Arnault and Baron Albert Frère and subsequently a large, modernist cellar has been built next to the chateau.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cheval Blanc is still incredibly primary at this very youthful stage. With coaxing, it unfurls to reveal beguiling notions of ripe black cherries, mulberries, licorice, baking spices and smoked meats with touches of incense and potpourri plus wafts of cast iron pan and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, very rich, very firm/taut and with very ripe, fine-grained tannins, it allows a glimpse at its incredible depth of flavors with a very long multi-layered finish. Wow." Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
