Jules Lafon was born in March 1864 in south-west France. Thirty years later he married a girl whose family owned vineyards and made wine in Meursault. Jules was made a count by the Roman catholic church and went on to create the paulée in Meursault: a party to celebrate the end of harvest. Jules acquired a number of new vineyards to add to the estate's production. The domaine has been run by Dominique Lafon since 1984.

Tasting Notes

"Even at 8 years of age this remains incredibly youthful with almost none of the exotic aromatic character that so many '06s display today. There is superb concentration and energy to the wonderfully textured, sweet, powerful, robust and strikingly intense full-bodied flavors that possess plenty of palate coating dry extract on the beautifully precise and hugely long finish. This is a big Montrachet, even by the imposing standards of the appellation yet it remains impeccably well-balanced. In terms of drinkability this is still very much on the way up and while I certainly enjoyed the wine I would advise holding for at least another 2 to 4 years and 6 to 8 if you have the patience." Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
