Château de Beaucastel has long been regarded as one of the most celebrated estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyard is situated at the northern limit of CNDP where it benefits from its exposure to the mistral winds. All 13 permitted varieties are planted in the vineyard and used in the wine. The 30 hectares of Coudoulet vineyard are located just east of the vineyard of Beaucastel; the soils are very similar with the characteristic large pebbles called "Galets Roulés" which store heat during the day and release it gradually at night. Coudoulet de Beaucastel is often referred to as the "baby Beaucastel".
There's a pleasing earthiness to the dark fruit aromas here, with aromas of bramble and dark plum meeting a southern herbal scent. The palate is nutty in its structure, yet with delicious fluidity to its fruit. Shape is wonderfully consistent throughout and a fresh minerality maintains one's interest. This is really superb Coudoulet. Bowes Wine original note
"This has better balance and tuning than many 2017 Châteauneuf reds." John Livingstone-Learmonth
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
