2006 Trévallon Rouge, Domaine de Trévallon

Ref: TREV060
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

in 1950 Jacqueline and René Dürrbach bought the Mas Chabert, having fallen in love with the region. The neighbouring property of Trévallon was also subsequently bought and it was Elio's father who suggested that the land could grow good wine. The soil here is rocky and explosives had to be employed to render the soil in such a condition that it could be planted. And those plantings were of Cabernet Sauvignon (a variety that had been common in the region before phylloxera) and Syrah. The Cabernet is on north-facing slopes, but not being authorised by the local wine laws, Trévallon is now bottled as a Vin de Pays des Bouches du Rhône.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

This wine was yet to be blended, so I include below my tasting notes of the Syrah and Cabernet cuvées: Syrah A ripe, black cherry nose with a strong spice element (smoked paprika!). There are floral notes too. Fresh and pure on the palate. There is crisp black fruit in this backward wine. It is compact at the moment, but swells in the mouth, underpinned by rich, crisp tannins. Full of life and vigour. Cabernet Sauvignon A deep, ripe, liqueur-like, spicy nose; meaty, with some dried fruit aromas. This is rich and yet closed. A BIG wine, rich and nutty. Fresh and very long and mineral, with great energy and lift at the end. Fabulous stuff. The two together will rock like a monkey and make very serious old bones. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
