There were Roagnas making wine in this commune before 1880, when the Barbaresco classification was born. They have since been steadily adding vineyard holdings in both Barbaresco and Barolo (this latter commune starting in 1989). Luca Roagna's first harvest was 2001.

This older wine is much redder in colour than the younger wines I tasted. But it is still very pale in the glass: beautiful. Fruit aromas are very pure, very pretty, of red apples and currants and flowers. There's excellent fresh tang about a nose that is nuanced by a nut-like scent. This goes in the mouth ripe and plush, but quickly picks up dense, grippy-fine mineral tannins. And it becomes increasingly grippy throughout, increasingly mineral. Extraordinary length and a touch floral all the while. Dark plum fruit abounds. Superb sustain here. Comes across as a much younger wine, but is open and wonderfully bright. Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
