Ref: SANG160

This ancient estate has been owned since 1914 by the Martini di Cigala family. The estate sits at the boundary of the old kingdoms of Florence and Siena. In the 13 century there was a massive fortress on this site of which remnant walls can be seen and in the cellars of which estate wines are aged. This is the southernmost part of the Chianti Classico area. The estate comprises 160 hectares of which 31 are vineyards, 11 are olive groves, 40 are woodlands, 78 are arable land, lawn and pasture. The soils are highly variable, tuffaceous with over 70% sand, sandy-silty, clayey-sandy, alkaline, calcareous.

Tasting Notes

"The 2016 Percarlo captures all of the beauty it has always shown in the cellar. Pliant, silky and exceptionally polished, the 2016 simply has it all. Freshly cut flowers, rose petal, mint, spice and blood orange add striking aromatic nuance to a core of brilliant Sangiovese fruit. Powerful and ample, with superb aromatic lift, the 2016 Percarlo is exceptionally beautiful and moving from the very first taste. A whole range of floral and mineral notes extend the finish effortless. The tannins need time to soften, so readers should plan on at least a few years of cellaring. In a word: compelling." Antonio Galloni

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
