Paris Redux

I'm on the train home from London after a fascinating tasting and wanted to give everyone an immediate sample of the evening's events.

Eight wines, four senior clarets and four Californians, all from the notable 1990 vintage. What struck me was how easy it was to tell the French from the American, but it was the 1990 Cabernet Special Reserve from Caymus that won the day, with Pichon-Lalande coming in at No.2.

The "septics" stood out for their ripe, smooth fruit and sheer drinkability, but IMHO it was the French wines that gave most in terms of cerebral activity! More details to follow soon.
