Pierre de Rauzan had fingers in many different vinous pies in the Médoc of the 17th century. He was manager of Châteaux Margaux and Latour and he bought the vineyards next to Latour that would eventually become the Pichons, Lalande and Baron. Pierre had bought the House of Gassies, but one brother insisted on making the Gassies wine separately and this led to a division of the estate: a situation maintained to this day. Rauzan Ségla was sold in the 1860s and in the early 20th century the spelling changed to Rausan. The legendary frost of 1956 all but destroyed the Rauzan Ségla vineyard and the property was sold twice in quick succession. The 1980s found the property owned by Brent Walker, which invested heavily on modernising the winery. In 1994 it was sold to the Wertheimer brothers, owners of Chanel. At this time the spelling was returned to Rauzan.

"The 2019 Rauzan-Ségla is a wine that I did not taste en primeur. Picked from September 12 to October 9 and matured in 60% new oak, it has a gorgeous, seductive bouquet of pure blackberry, bilberry, crushed iris petals and just a hint of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and good cohesion and depth. The oak is seamlessly integrated on the finish, which lingers like a temptress. Two samples tasted, the second demonstrating a little more salinity on the aftertaste. This will be irresistible." Neal Martin
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
