Domaine des Mapliers is owned by the Gallo family (no connection to California’s ubiquitous wines of the same name). Jean Gallo has been passionate about wine and Champagne for over 40 years, an enthusiasm he naturally transmitted to his son. In 2013 they decided to acquire a vineyard and live out their passion for the land and its wine. Previously managed by the celebrated Domaine Ott, the vineyard is located in the heart of Provence Varoise. Certified Organic, Domaine des Mapliers Rosé is cultivated with total respect of nature. The vines, situated on a south-facing hillside, grow on a calcareous clay soil at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level, which accounts for the wine’s unique freshness.

Not much to say about the colour. It’s a pale salmon pink i.e. the sort of colour that has become rather de rigeur, what with the current Provençal market fixation. But from there on in, things start to deviate from the norm. Aromas-wise, it rises from the glass in an enticing waft of nectarine through which slightly floral notes emerge. There is, perhaps, a hint of spice, too. The palate takes things up yet a notch further. Far from being a weighty wine, it nevertheless has a beguiling weight of delicious fruit. I located a raspberry or two growing amongst the nectarines. Length is, at this level, eye-opening. And it’s all backed by the sort of acidity that says “Come on. Things are getting fresh. Let’s have another pour.”
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
