1997 Château Lafaurie Peyraguey, Sauternes

1997 Château Lafaurie Peyraguey, Sauternes

Ref: BORD9714
White  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

As is common, the name of this property comes from erstwhile owners, having been variously under the auspices of both a Monsieur Peyraguey and Monsieur Lafaurie in the 17th and 18th centuries. This property - once a 13th century fort - was purchased by the firm of Cordier in the early 20th century. It changed hands again in 1984 and again in 2014, when it was sold to Silvio Denz, who has spared no expense in pushing ever higher the quality of Lafaurie. Part of the chateau is now a hotel with a Michelin starred restaurant.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"The 1997 Lafaurie-Peyraguey has been a consistent performer over the years. Dried honey, lanolin, beeswax and hints of quince are all delivered with energy and precision. The palate is medium-bodied, offering a viscous texture and ample honeyed fruit laced with orange pith and Seville orange marmalade. What struck me with this bottle is the acidity and race toward the finish. A Sauternes with more bite than I remember, hence my higher score. This comes highly recommended." Neal Martin

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
