1982 Bas Armagnac, Château Lacaze

Unlike cognac, which is made in pot stills, armagnac is made by a process of continuous distillation via a column still. Base wines are distilled to a lower alcoholic strength than cognac: typically around 52%. There are therefore more flavouring compounds, giving a richer tasting spirit.
This is an early landed spirit. Shipped to the UK in barrel two years after distillation, traditionally to Bristol, these spirits are held in deep, cold and humid cellars for years, as their alcoholic strength drops naturally until such time as they are deemed to be at their finest and ready to be bottled. No colouring or sweetening is added. These are some of the finest spirits available.
