2002 Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans, Hubert de Montille

2002 Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans, Hubert de Montille

Ref: MONT020 (PART CASE)
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

This estate was created in the mid-18th century and, at the time, owned vines in some of the grandest vineyards of Burgundy: vines that were. over time, sold off as and when the financial situation required. When Hubert de Montille took over the business in the mid-1940s there were but three hectares remaining. Hubert split his time between life as a Dijon lawyer and the wine business in Volnay. In 1990, Hubert's son Etienne took over the wine making duties here. In 2012, Etienne and investors bought the Château de Puligny-Montrachet where Etienne had been making the wine since 2001. And in 2003 Etienne created a negociant business called Deux Montilles with his sister Alix.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"Oddly, this is bigger, more serious and more powerful than the Champans with a broad aromatic spectrum of red and black fruits and obvious mineral notes merging seamlessly into dusty, precise and ultra pure middle weight flavors and a much firmer and more persistent backend. There is simply more material here with a buried yet noticeable tannic spine. A terrific wine of impressive balance." Burghound

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
