Penfolds is among the oldest wine producers in Australia founded, as it was, in Adelaide in 1844 by English immigrant physician Christopher Rawson Penfold. On their arrival they secured - with family assistance - 500 acres around their home (The Grange) and planted French vines from which they intended to make a health tonic, being firm believers in the medicinal benefits of wine. Starting out making fortified wines in the style of sherry and port, they quickly found that still wines were both easy to produce and popular. In 2005 Southcorp Wines (the wine-producing arm of SA Brewing, owner of Penfolds since 1976) was acquired by the Fosters Group. It was Max Schubert, Penfolds wine maker, who created Grange Hermitage (later simply Grange) following a trip to Europe after WWII.

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz presents lovely, expressive blueberry, black raspberry and black cherries notes highlighted by violets, toast, cinnamon stick and touch of mulberries. Full-bodied and rich, the concentrated fruit is framed by medium levels of rounded tannins, crisp acid and a long, classically-styled finish. Approachable now, it will drink to 2020+." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
