Jules Lafon was born in March 1864 in south-west France. Thirty years later he married a girl whose family owned vineyards and made wine in Meursault. Jules was made a count by the Roman catholic church and went on to create the paulée in Meursault: a party to celebrate the end of harvest. Jules acquired a number of new vineyards to add to the estate's production. The domaine has been run by Dominique Lafon since 1984.

"A clearly very ripe yet notably restrained nose offers up notes of white and yellow fruit, mango, spice, minerals and soft oak hints only under the duress of aggressive swirling. The massive, rich and exceptionally full-bodied flavors display no such moderation however as they unleash a seemingly full-frontal attack on the palate as the intensity is borderline painful and the finish doesn't seem to stop as I could still taste this an hour later. Speaking of "wow" wines, this qualifies as well." Burghound

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
