The first member of the family to appear on the Burgundy "scene" was Marc Le Flayve in 1580. It wasn't until 1717, however, that its current headquarters in Puligny were occupied by a family member: Claude, the first of a line of Claude Leflaives. It was a Joseph Leflaive who in 1905 founded Domaine Leflaive proper with but 2 hectares of vineyards. For the next twenty years, Joseph built up the estate, buying land from owners wanting to escape the depredation left by the Phylloxera plague. Joseph's sons Vincent and Jo ran the domaine for many years and, following Vincent's death in 1993, the estate was managed by his daughter Anne-Claude, with help from Pierre Morey. This is one of the finest producers of Chardonnay in the world.

"The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillons emerges from the glass with plenty of sweet, caressing fruit. I especially like the way this blossoms on the mid-palate, while remaining relatively hushed. This understated Clavoillons impresses for it balance and sheer harmony. The integration of fruit, acidity and structure is terrific." Antonio Galloni
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
