Last Thursday's Tasting List

Thursday's Tasting

We were so glad to see so many like-minded, wine-loving people come together on Thursday evening at 67 Pall Mall for a "casual act of vinous worship". Thank you so much for coming down and helping to make it such a jolly occasion.

I thought that, what with there having been so many wines open for tasting (and with tasting sheets so often being misplaced somewhere between venue and home, and not all wines actually being on the tasting list!), I might send across a list of the wines we sampled on the night, along with notes about availability.

N.B. Please feel free to forward this on to any of your guests for whom I did not get contact details on the night. If you think they would like to receive an email direct from us at Bowes Wine/GrapePip, please supply relevant email contacts:

This won the highest award in its category in the Drinks Business Global Pinot Noir Masters competition. We are the UK's sole stockists of Larnaudie-Hirault wines. Discounts for volume purchases.

A great favourite of ours here at Bowes Wine/GrapePip. Sauvignon dominated and really age-worthy.

Sensational dry Riesling from the young Eva Fricke. Ask about current releases.

2015 Riesling Muenchenberg Grand Cru, Domaine Ostertag
Finding out about current vintage, price and availability. Do let me know if it might be of interest.

2008 Riesling Trocken Wachau Dürnsteiner Hollerin, FX Pichler
Finding out about current vintage, price and availability. Do let me know if it might be of interest.

Fabulous Gruner from an Austrian master. Will delight well into the future. Stock available at £177 in bond per 6

2014 Bourgogne Aligoté Raisins Dores, Michel Lafarge, Burgundy
A master of Volnay also makes this sensational old vine (and little seen) Aligoté. Ask about future vintages!

2014 Meursault Vieilles Vignes, Buisson-Charles, Burgundy
Hugely dependable source of extremely classy and age-worthy white burgundy. We have a range of wines and vintages, so please ask if of interest. This wine is available at £312 in bond a dozen

2016 Furmint Stone Wine, Balla Geza Winery, Romania
Furmint is one of the most interesting white varieties, capable of producing wines of great expression. Most is Hungarian; this is Romanian. And delicious. Available at £108 in bond a dozen

2011 Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière, Bachelet-Monnot, Burgundy

A domain more celebrated for its scintillating white wines, but making delightful, elegant reds, too. Both Bowes Wine and GrapePip are showing stock, so please request details.

2009 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Grands Liards, Camus-Bruchon, Burgundy
Old vine Savigny from one of the best sources in the village. Characterful, rich and structured red burgundy. Various wines available. Please ask.

2008 Pernand-Verglesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses, Remi-Rollin, Burgundy
A super producer of both red and white Pernand, as well as stellar Corton Charlemagne. Please ask about stocks.

2015 Volnay, François Buffet, Burgundy
A really exciting producer that excelled in the warm 2015 vintage. Stock available at £150 in bond per 6

2011 Barolo, Giacomo Fenocchio, Italy
This was a major hit at 67 Pall Mall. The 2011 has sold through, alas, but we can offer the 2014 vintage at £144 in bond per 6

2011 Brunello di Montalcino Piaggione, Salicutti, Italy
Among our favourite Brunello producers. We currently have a modest allocation of the fabulous 2013 vintage at £282 in bond per 6

2012 Brunello di Montalcino, La Rasina, Italy
Dark, slightly brooding Brunello of the northern style. We are currently offering the 2013 vintage - scored 96/100 by James Suckling - at £180 in bond per 6

2013 Lagyl Arba, Saperavi, Kazakhstan
Eye-popping red from an unexpected source, but very tasty all the same. Saperavi a truly stunning red varietal. We have stock at £136.50 inc VAT per 6

2009 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Christophe, Domaine Remizières, Rhône
Just good, mature northern Rhône Syrah. There's a case of the 2006 on GrapePip here.

2009 Côte-Rôtie Cuvée du Plessy, Giles Barge, Rhône
Funky, old-fashioned and delicious northern Rhône red. There's a case of the '05 currently live on our auction site, GrapePip, here.

2006 Bandol Cuvée Migoua, Domaine Tempier, France
One of France's finest wine estates. We have very limited stocks of one or two wines and have just received a small allocation of the latest release. Also produce among the world's finest rosé wines.

2012 Gigondas, Domaine Saint Gayan, Rhône Valley
A wine made for proper carousing over a large slab of something very dead. I love its wild allure. Stock available at £192 in bond a dozen

2011 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Charles Giraud, St Préfert, Rhône
Isabel Ferrando makes  a superb array of wines in Châteauneuf where, IMO, the wines are all the better for a cooler growing season, as here. We can offer stock at £354 in bond a dozen

2016 Ventoux Blanc Les Gressannes, Domaine Champ Long

Stunning modern take on dry white rhone. On a current Bowes Wine offering at £66 in bond per 6

2016 Les Contours de Mairlant, Francois Villard
Perhaps more traditional in style, but no less delicious. On the same current offering at £69 in bond per 6

2015 Santenay Blanc Le Bievaux, Antoine Olivier
I'll leave a tasting note to new boy at Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Richard Kelley: "The 2015 Santenay Le Bievaux L'Air de Rien offers up a pretty nose of preserved citrus, smoke and citrus oil. On the palate, the wine is nicely concentrated, leading with a textural, generous attack which soon segues into a racy, electric line of acidity. This will delight acid-lovers over the next five or six years." We can sell at c. £200 inc VAT per 6

2011 Crianza, Sastre, Ribera del Duero, Spain
One of our best-selling wines. The 2011 has sold through at £174 in bond a dozen. The next vintage is 2015, which I tasted the other day and which is, of course, younger, but nonetheless sensational.

2005 Altagracia, Araujo, Napa Valley, USA
There is a 6-bottle lot of this wine currently live on our own auction site, GrapePip, here.

Best regards, Caspar
