Hungarian Wine

In the 17th century the sweet wines of Tokaji were so respected that their production and vineyards became controlled under law: the first ever instance of vinous regulation in the world! In due course, the fame of Tokaji wines spread worldwide. Jumping ahead to the 20th century, communist state control took over wine production and all development of the industry ceased. However, in the post-communist era, a great deal of foreign investment has poured into the country's wineries and a focus on quality has re-established itself. The future is looking rosy, and not just for the famous Tokaji wines!
