2010 Château Troplong Mondot, St Emilion

2010 Château Troplong Mondot, St Emilion

Ref: BORD10147
Red  |  Still  |  16% ABV

In the 17th century Troplong and a number of other St Emilion properties was owned by Raymond Desèze, a local abbot and it was Desèze who built the château of Troplong Mondot. It was, however, only a century later that the property gained its current name when a Raymond Troplong appended the name of the locale to his surname and hung it over the door. The estate was subsequently sold to a Belgian by the name of Monsieur Thienpont. Thienpont bought Vieux Château Certan a few years later, having to sell Troplong to fund the purchase. In 1936, Troploong was sold to Alexander Valette and it remained in the Valette family until the death of Christine Valette in 2014. It was Christine who, since taking the reins in 1980, had thoroughly modernised the property, bringing in Michel Rolland as consultant. In 2017, Troplong was bought by insurance company SOCR for a record price.

Tasting Notes

"Much less fruit-centric than the 2009 on the nose, but the palate seems to have greater layers of intensity. Rich chocolate aromas with a touch of smoke and slate as well. Nuanced and balanced but with much more age needed to tease out the finer details." Richard Hemming MW

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
