2015 Château Pontet Canet, Pauillac

2015 Château Pontet Canet, Pauillac

Ref: BORD15148
Red  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

Jean-François de Pontet  was Master of the Horse) to Louis XV, subsequently Governor of the Médoc. At the start of the 18th century he bought a plot of land north of Pauillac and planted vines. Later, he added more vineyard in Canet, combining his surname with the place-name to label his wine. In the mid-19th century, Pontet-Canet was acquired by Herman Cruse, a local wine merchant and it remained in the Cruse family hands until 1965, when it was purchased by Guy Tesseron, a cognac merchant. So Pontet-Canet has only ever been in the hands of three families in its entire history. Since the early 1990s, the property has moved increasingly towards sustainable viticulture and the vineyards are now worked by horse, rather than tractor.

Tasting Notes

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Pontet-Canet comes charging out of the glass with fantastically expressive notes of black cherry preserves, black raspberries and blackcurrant pastilles plus touches of kirsch, wilted roses, tobacco, camphor and cinnamon stick with a waft of fragrant soil. Full bodied, the palate is laden with black and red fruit layers, supported by very firm, very finely grained tannins and provocative freshness, finishing with incredible length and stunningly perfumed." Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
