Cos (as it is abbreviated) was founded by Louis Gaspard d’Estournel in 1811. Louis was very forward-looking and not only marketed his wines widely around the world, but also bottled, labelled and sold his own wine from the chateau. India was a big market for the wines of Cos, hence the Asian design of the chateau itself. For a period Cos and its neighbour had the same owner - the Chamolue family - before being bought by Fernand Ginestet in the early 20th century. Fernand's grandchildren (having the surname Prats) were running the estate in the '90s when it was sold to the Merlaut family of the Taillan group: a short tenure, as they sold it on two years later to Michel Reybier. The winery has since been completely renovated.

Fresh nose of summer berry fruits. I found cassis and damson - very dark. Plus dry spice and wood spice. The palate's really cool and composed. This is really quite subtle, the tannins bigger than one first suspects when tasting it. Very long in the mouth, with hidden juice and a lovely linear profile. The tannins really are very fine. Plum and cassis. Delicious Cos. Bowes Wine original note
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
