2009 Château Langoa Barton, St Julien

2009 Château Langoa Barton, St Julien

Ref: BORD0923
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

Thomas Barton left Ireland for Bordeaux in 1722 and became a successful wine merchant in the city. He had already bought St Estèphe chateau Le Boscq when he took up the opportunity, in 1821, to buy Château Pontet-Langlois, which was subsequently renamed Langoa Barton. The next purchase was of one part of the giant Léoville estate: a vineyard that became Léoville-Barton that did not come with a corresponding chateau. Since then, both wines have been made at Langoa. Langoa is the only chateau in the same ownership as at the time of the 1855 classification of the Médoc.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

An opaque black-blue in the glass. A tannic nose, not that pronounced. The fruit is rather closed, yet there's a great deal of spice to be found. Black fresh and dried fruits: blackcurrant and cherry. Very, very cool. This is at once backward and full of grip. Very cool wine, with a mineral juiciness. Lip-smacking, indeed. Very long and pure. Huge grip, with dew-covered blackcurrants within. Fully integrated. Lovely stuff. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
