Jonathan Maltus's father was an expatriate working for Standard Chartered bank in Africa, which is where Jonathan grew up. Having had a successful career in the oil industry Jonathan bought Château Teyssier in St Emilion in the 1990s. Acquisitive and ever-keen to experiment, Jonathan has met with adulation and criticism in seemingly equal doses. His top wine is Le Dôme, the St Emilion with the highest proportion of Cabernet Franc from a vineyard near Château Angélus. He added a neighbouring vineyard from whcih he makes a wine called Vieux Château Mazerat. In addition, he produces wine under the following labels, all St Emilion: Les Astéries; Le Carré; Laforge, and, of course, Teyssier. In addition, he makes a white wine called Nardian.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

A rich and dense modern nose. Hints of the wood frame the floral, black cherry fruit. Chocolate intervenes. Rich and cool and a touch creamy, but this is structured from the front, with very fine tacky rich tannins leading to fresh, grippy persistence. Long and parallel and lovely. Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
