2000 Château La Lagune, Haut Médoc

2000 Château La Lagune, Haut Médoc

Ref: LALA000
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

The chateau at La Lagune was Built in the early 18th century and the wine was already well known by that time. In 1958 the property was a mess. Financial hardship caused by WWII was capped off by the severe frost of 1956. In '58 the property was sold with just 5 hectares of vines to a M Brunet who began a program of replanting. M Brunet, too, fell on hard times and sold the property on to the Ducellier family of Champagne Ayala in 1962. Then in 1999 Champagne Ayala and La Lagune were sold to the Frey family. And the Frey acquisitions didn't stop there, as they subsequently picked up both Paul Jaboulet Aïné in the northern Rhône and the Château de Corton-André in Burgundy.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"It has a clean and expressive bouquet with redcurrant jam and raspberry preserved mixed with gravel and tobacco scents, nicely defined if not overly complex. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, tightly wound black fruit tinged with tar and sea salt, leading to a structured and rather “square-jawed” finish that would have benefitted from more flesh." Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
