Established in the 12th century in Germany's northern Württemberg Valley, the von Neipperg earldom comprised some thirty villages and market towns, including Schwaigern, which remains the family seat to this day. The family has made wine in Germany since the 13th century, and viticulture has never stopped being a central part of their life. The custodian of some 800 years of winegrowing tradition, Stephan von Neipperg manages the Bordeaux estates acquired by his family in 1971 including Aiguilhe in Castillon, Clos de l'Oratoire, Canon La Gaffelière and La Mondotte in St Emilion and Clos Marsalette in Pessac-Léognan.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

Smoky notes and a wealth of black cherries. There's a sweetness to the aromas, as well as floral notes. There are some dried fruits and something medicinal. The fruit on the palate is black, with some peppery spice. This is richly structured and long and full of minerals and nutty tannins. Again, a mix of fresh and dried fruit. Nice shape. Crisp acidity. Nice intensity at the back. Tasted twice. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
