2010 Château Pichon Baron, Pauillac

Ref: BORD10129
Red  |  Still  |  13.7% ABV

Jacques de Pichon Longueville was the first President of the Bordeaux Parliament and came to own this property  via a dowry on his marriage to Thérèse, daughter of the owner. Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville subsequently devided the estate on his deathbed between his sons (who formed Pichon Baron) and his daughters (Pichon Lalande). The family sold Pichon Baron in 1933, but it was when it was sold to the insurance group AXA that Pichon Baron's modern period began. Since 1993 Pichon Baron and all AXA wine estates hvae been managed by Englishman Christian Seely.

Tasting Notes

"The 2010 Pichon-Baron has a surly, backward and uncompromising bouquet of layers of black fruit, smoke and melted tar. It feels curmudgeonly compared to the 2009, which one expects, yet I wonder if it will always remain that way. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, great depth, huge grip in the mouth and intense mineralité toward the persistent finish. But this might be a rare case where the finesse of the 2009 shades the 2010. It will need a decade in the bottle and maybe then I will be proven wrong." Neal Martin

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
