Du Tertre is situated at one of the highest points in Margaux: a small rise (tertre, in French) of gravel. It perhaps lays claim to having been the earliest purveyor of chateau-bottled wine, since one of its owner in the 17th century was a renowned glass blower who created the jeroboam bottle and engaged in some bottling of his own wine. By the 1960s the property was in decline and was bought by Philippe Gasqueton, owner of Calon-Ségur. On the death of M Gasqueton in 1995 Du Tertre was sold to the Jelgersma family, oweners of Château Giscours. The vineyard here is unusual in that it is one single block of vines. There are 53.5 hectares of vines here.

"The medium garnet colored 2009 du Tertre conjures notions of kirsch, black raspberries, warm plums and potpourri on the nose with hints of sage and menthol. The palate is medium-bodied, soft, juicy and seductively approachable with a lively finish." Lisa Perrotti-Brown
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
