At the beginning of the 19th century, John-Lewis Brown bought a vineyard and designed a traditional Tudor style château to go with the land, reminding him of his Scottish origins. In 1843, Mr. Gromard, banker, took over the estate. After the 1855 Grand Cru Classification, Louis Armand Lalande (1820-1894), Bordeaux wine merchant and owner of several estates in Médoc, extended the building. In 2006 AXA Millésimes sold Cantenac-Brown to Syrian-born property developer Simon Halabi.

"Wow - one of those wines that seemed to excel under blind conditions, this is a Margaux that should be taken seriously. The 2010 demonstrates a lot of extraction on the nose with liquorice infused black fruit, iodine and blueberry jam. This is on the brink of being over-ripe - but it knows the line not to cross. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry, generous and honeyed in texture, the acidity nicely judged and it builds towards a multi-layered finish that is both sophisticated and engaging. Long-term. Tasted January 2014." Neal Martin
All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.
Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
