2004 Carruades de Lafite, Pauillac

2004 Carruades de Lafite, Pauillac

Ref: BORD0429
Red  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

It was the then ubiquitous Ségur family that organised the vine planting at Lafite in the late 17th century. And the market found for this new wine - claret - was initially an English one. In the 18th century, aided by the social circles in which owner Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur moved and the passionate patronage of such luminaries as the Maréchal de Richelieu, Lafite gained popularity with ruling classes. However, the tenure of the Ségur family ended with the execution of the owner after the revolution. The estate was offered for sale and bought by a Dutch merchant. Thereafter it changed hands a few times before an extended period under the ownership of a single family: the Vanleberghes. In 1868 the estate was bought by Baron James de Rothschild and the family has owned Lafite ever since.

Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
