2015 Regina Vides, Viña Sastre

2015 Regina Vides, Viña Sastre

Ref: SAST150
Red  |  Still  |  15% ABV

Jesus Sastre was pioneer of organic wine growing in the village of La Hora in Ribera del Duero and grapes for this cuvee come from a plot of 90 years old vines located at over 800m above sea in the best part of the commune. The wines are surrounded by those used for Aalto PS, Pingus, Sei Solo, Vega Sicilia.... A pedigree and a half! Production from these old wines is less than 25hl/ha so these are some of the most concentrated and intense gapes you are likely to run across. Once you bring this kind of juice to the winery you really do not have much to do other than to let the nature get on with it.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

This manages a stunning trick on the nose by being both a touch creamy and wonderfully defined at one and the same time. Aromas are black and blue, of plum and bramble and blueberry and classy wood comes through as a toasty note. Complexity shows in its hints of charcoal and salt. The whole effect is remarkably cool, almost airy. I found a hint of dried herbs after a while. The palate is rich, but very quickly gathers a lightly saline structure within the red and black plum fruit. Tannins are very, very fine with a cashmere texture. Very long thing, with minerals along its length. A very busy wine with a properly fresh through-put. Latterly nippy and sustained grip drives through the very clean finish. And there's lively tension throughout, This really is a very fine wine indeed. Bowes Wine original note

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
