2004 Château Certan de May, Pomerol

2004 Château Certan de May, Pomerol

Ref: 004BORD
Red  |  Still  |  13% ABV

This estate and Vieux Château Certan were once a single property. Divided after the revolution, five hectares were bought by the De May family, who appended their name to the name Certan, which denotes this part of Pomerol. The De May family sold the property to its current owners, the Barrau-Badard family, in 1925 and the wine is currently marketed by the firm of Mouiex.

Tasting Notes

"The Certan-de-May 2004 is more reticent on the nose than the 2003: blackcurrant wine gums and very fine minerality. The palate exhibits superb balance and typically fine tannins, the Cabernet lending it a sturdy backbone but supported by some ripe, beautifully poised Merlot. I adored this in primeur and in bottle it is fulfilling its promise. Crushed stones on the finish. Wonderful. Tasted September 2009." Neal Martin

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
