2016 Barbaresco, Produttori del Barbaresco

2016 Barbaresco, Produttori del Barbaresco

Ref: PROD160
Red  |  Still  |  14% ABV

The Produttori del Barbaresco consists of 50 vine growing families working 250 acres of vineyards. There had been a co-operative in Barbaresco between the mid-1890s and 1930, but it had been closed down by a fascist government. In 1958 the local priest realised that co-operation was the only way for smallholders to survive and he founded the Produttori with nineteen families. The first three vintages were made in the church crypt, thereafter across the square in a winery built for the purpose.

Tasting Notes

The 2016 Barbaresco is a tight and beautiful wine that will require more time to unwind and soften. This beautifully balanced vintage is characterized by a tight inner core of fruit that underlines the graceful aging capacity of these wines. The 2016 is shaping up to be one destined for long cellar aging. Now in its youth, the wine offers wild berry, rose and licorice aromas. 95/100. Drink 2022-2040.Monica Larner

The 2016 Barbaresco is a stunning wine with tremendous richness for this bottling. Ample, deep and powerful, the 2016 exudes pedigree and class from start to finish. I can't remember a straight Barbaresco here with this much fruit density and unctuous richness, and yet there is more than enough tannin and overall structure to give the wine its classically leaning feel. A blast of sweet red cherry fruit, tobacco, menthol licorice and smoke hits the potent finish. What a wine! 94/100.Antonio Galloni

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
