2011 La Grande Rue Grand Cru, Francois Lamarche

2011 La Grande Rue Grand Cru, Francois Lamarche

Ref: LAMA113
Red  |  Still  |  13.5% ABV

This domaine has its roots at the start of the 20th century when Henri Lamarche, a cooper, married Marie Grivelet from Chambolle-Musigny. Henri started making his own wines and selling them directly from the estate. It was his son who gained the La Grande Rue vineyard from his wife's family by way of a dowry. This was in the 1930s when there wasn't great demand for burgundy and grands crus attracted more tax, so M Lamarche decided to leave the vineyard as a premier cru (this is despite its location between La Tâche and Romanée-Conti). In 1989 La Grande Rue was elevated to grand cru status by the INAO. Lamarche bottles 14 different wines from a little more than 10 hectares of vineyards.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes

"The La Grande Rue Grand Cru has one of the most precocious bouquets of the 2011 grand cru tasted blind. It offers a surfeit of kirsch, redcurrant jam, raspberry preserve and candied orange peel all struck through with tangible minerality and tension. The palate is sweet and pure with ebullient red brambly fruit under a veneer of new wood, but the two are effortlessly in sync. It gently builds toward an ostentatious and almost ravishing finish only confined by the limitations of the growing season. This is a hedonistic and luxuriant delight - all while upholding the essence of the vineyard." Neal Martin

Sweetness Explained
Sweetness Explained

Sweetness

All our wines are given a Sweetness Indicator from 1 to 5, with 1 being the driest and 5 being the sweetest.
This can be found for every wine under the Wine Details tab.

Most red wines are dry and therefore are indicated with a 1. The sweetness becomes more relevant with white wines, sparkling wines and pudding/dessert wines such as Sauternes and Tokaji.
